Durable and food-safe: Wendy's pottery is glazed and high-fired in a gas reduction kiln to 3250°F.
Wendy's studio is located in Kennebunkport, Maine and for many years she
has successfully marketed her work at craft fairs throughout the
northeast. Soon Wendy will open a gallery and begin to offer classes.
<< Oh,
The Magic of Fire!! Wendy fires her kiln full of
fine porcelain.
Wendy has been playing with clay and
fire for more than 30 years! In the 70s she apprenticed with Lou
Leal of Weslean Potters where she developed a love of organic form and
a deep respect for fine craftsmanship. She learned to see the
awesome possibilities inherent in clay. Over the years
she's developed her unique style, incorporating her lifelong love of
drawing and painting.
Each Wendy Twitchell piece
is an original.
Wendy uses her two hands, her imagination, plus a few
basic tools including a large rolling pin and a kick wheel to create
her pottery. She designs and carves various stamps and patterns
impressed into the porcelain when it is leather-hard. She uses
an ever-growing collection of found objects—many are
"gifts" from the sea, the woods, the garden, or the kitchen
drawer...

Wendy's philosophy:
"I
find daily inspiration for my work in the beauty and wonder of the
natural world; in birds and animals, flowers and trees, the sea and
the sky, and in the mystery of fairy tales.
"I'm
enchanted by the words of wonderful poets such as Emily Dickinson,
'Faith is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul...'
And by Rumi's words, 'Let the beauty you love be what you do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.' "
